Tomorrow is Gaura Purnima, the appearance day of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the golden incarnation. Gaura means golden. Since the bodily hue of Lord Chaitanya was golden, He is also known as Gauranga and Gaurasundara. Lord Chaitanya is Krishna Himself in the emotion and complexion of Radharani. When Radha and Krishna combine in one form, then that is the form of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. sri krishna chaitanya, radha-krishna nahe anya: There is no difference between Lord Chaitanya and Radha-Krishna.
Krishna is blackish in complexion whereas Radha’s complexion resembles that of molten gold (tapta kāncana gaurangi). Since Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna appearing with the golden complexion of Radharani,He is known as Gauranga.
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the most merciful incarnation of Godhead because He gives the most valuable thing, viz. krishna-prema, free of cost and without any discrimination. Therefore Rupa Gosvami has described Him as maha vadānya, the most magnanimous Personality of Godhead. One cannot hope to achieve Radha and Krishna without the mercy of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The entry of Vrindavana is through Navadvipa, the holy dhāma (abode) of Gaurahari.
When Krishna appeared, He laid many pre-conditions for the attainment of His holy abode. He demanded complete surrender before He took charge of the devotee. But the same Krishna, when He appeared as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, gave away Himself without any conditions. This is so because He came in the emotion of a devotee, in fact the supreme devotee – Srimati Radharani. Therefore it is advised that if one is desirous of achieving love of Krishna, then one should take the shelter of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Krishna gave the treasure-chest of love of Godhead but kept the keys of the locked treasure with Himself. But when Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared 500 years ago, in the holy land of Bengal, He broke open that storehouse, plundered it and distributed the treasure to one and all. The purpose of Lord Gaurahari’s incarnation was to relish Radha’s love and distribute freely the most valuable treasure of krishna-prema. Those who are intelligent, are grabbing the largesse and those who are too proud to take charity, are strictly staying away from the scene. Thus, they are getting deprived of the unlimited bliss that the devotees of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are experiencing by chanting the holy name of Krishna.
